In this talk I discuss the application of the grooming algorithm soft drop, which was originally developed in the context of LHC studies, to electron-positron collisions. I show how the algorithm greatly reduces the impact of non-perturbative physics to the distributions of event-shape variables. On the other hand, in order to obtain reliable results, traditional definitions of event shapes must be optimised because of non-trivial correlations with the soft-drop algorithm.
