The first direct observation of gravitational waves, made by the two LIGO detectors on September 14 2015, gave birth to the new field of gravitational waves astronomy. Since then other signals from binary black holes coalescences were detected during the first observation run (O1). On November 30 2016 a second observation run (O2) was started. In the final part of the run, Advanced Virgo will join the network of detectors. In this seminar I will describe the first results of the O2 scientific run, and I will provide an overview of the status and prospects of the Advanced Virgo detector.
