Research activity

In Quantum Materials Theory group we are interested in describing and predicting properties of complex materials. We focus mostly on electric and magnetic properties of materials and we describe them through simulations or analytical models. In collaborations with experimental groups we try to identify candidate materials that could host exciting fundamental physics or be used in applications, e.g. in sensors, optoelectronic devices and energy-efficient devices for information technology. While trying to discover the properties of the materials we study we use a variety of theoretical tools: effective Hamiltonians that capture the essence of a phenomenon, realistic analytical models and first-principles simulations.
