History of our Department
The Institute of Physical Sciences was founded in the early 70s by merging the former Institute of Experimental Physics with the Institute of Theoretical Physics.
The birth of this unique home for experimental and theoretical physics traditions was due to the presence in Genoa of two bright young professors, the theoretician Antonino Borsellino and the experimentalist Ettore Pancini.
Pancini, in particular, devoted all his energy and skills to the organisation of a modern research center, equipped with mechanical and electronic workshops, and superbly managed both technically and scientifically.
The Department today
The Department of Physics of the University of Genoa was founded in 1984 as a natural development of the former Institute of Physical Sciences. It is located within a nice and green city area among the hills of the district of Albaro.
