Applications are open for the Genoa selection of FameLab Italia, the international competition for young researchers with communication skills, which will take place in Genoa on May 7th and 8th, 2024. The selection is organized by the National Research Council, University of Genoa, Italian Institute of Technology, INFN Section of Genoa, Festival della Scienza Association, RAISE, Genoa Aquarium, G. Doria Natural History Museum, Museo di Storia Naturale G. Doria, Associazione Didattica Museale, and Associazione Dottorandi Italiani, Scientificast.

FameLab is a public speaking competition reserved for young researchers, doctoral candidates, and postdocs who must present a scientific topic in a clear and engaging manner in just 3 minutes (in Italian or English) and win the votes of a jury of experts from the world of science and communication. The competition is a special and original event to showcase one's research activity, an international platform and meeting point for young researchers, and an opportunity to learn some of the most effective public speaking techniques. 

The competition is open not only to candidates from scientific, medical, and engineering backgrounds but also to candidates from humanities backgrounds who use scientific methods, theories, and data in their research and will discuss them in their talks. • Preselection 1: Tuesday, May 7th, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Auditorium of the Genoa Aquarium
• Preselection 2: Wednesday, May 8th, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Auditorium of the Giacomo Doria Civic Museum of Natural History
• Final: Wednesday, May 8th, at 8:30 pm at Sala La Claque in Agorà

A free short masterclass is available for all interested participants, which will take place on Monday, April 15th, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in person at the Sala Ligure of the University of Genoa at via Balbi 5 or online. During the masterclass, the rules of FameLab Italia will be explained, and some tips for creating presentations will be provided. To participate in the masterclass, you must register here.

The top two candidates from the Genoa selection of FameLab will have access to an international science communication masterclass in Perugia in June 2024, and to the national final to be held between September and October 2024. The Italian winner will compete to become the 2024 world champion at the international final scheduled for November 2024.

FameLab Italia (www.famelab-italy.it) is coordinated by the science communication company Psiquadro Srl in collaboration with the Cheltenham Science Festival and held in 2024 in 12 Italian cities: Ancona, Bari, Brescia, Camerino, Catania, Cosenza, Ferrara, Genoa, Perugia, Rome, Turin, Trieste.
