Abstract
In this seminar, I will present the Trinity’s pioneering efforts in Earth-skimming tau neutrino detection. I will delve into the evolution of the Trinity project focusing on the Demonstrator phase, detailing its concept, development, and deployment. I will discuss its operational challenges and highlights the instrument's sensitivity and its potential to detect transient sources like NGC 1068 and TXS 0506+056. I will outline further steps for both the Demonstrator and the broader Trinity project, envisioning a future of enhanced neutrino astronomy.
Bio
Dr. Mariia Fedkevych works in the field of experimental particle physics and astrophysics. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Münster, Germany, in 2020 working on calibration and background reduction of KATRIN neutrino mass experiment. She was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Genoa and National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) section of Genoa in 2019-2022, Italy, working on isotope separation and ion implantation for the HOLMES neutrino mass experiment, and development of cryogenic detectors to study low-energy nuclear isomeric transition of Th-229m and Cryogenic Anti-Coincidence detector for X-ray Integral Field Unit of the ATHENA space observatory. She joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Alabama in 2022 to work with Prof. Ryan Wang on the operation and data analysis for the liquid scintillator-based outer detector of the LZ dark matter experiment and on developing the new type of veto system for generation 3 dark matter and neutrino experiments.
