Short distance neutrino Oscillations with BoreXino

Borexino is an ideal instrument for physics measurements on neutrino properties. The SOX project wants to perform a complete study of some anomalous effects, which have been observed by several short distance oscillation experiments, and aims at a clear discovery or at a clear disproof of the existence of the so called sterile neutrinos, particles that have even lower interaction with matter than Standard Model neutrinos. To achieve this result, we plan to build two artificial neutrino and anti-neutrino generators.

The Genova group has a leading role in the project and, in particular, will build the high precision calorimeter which is crucial for the calibration of the generators.
